Both courses must be from a Florida-approved continuing education provider. Out-of-State Nursing License Transfer Information

APPLICATION BY ENDORSEMENT TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER STATE
Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Apply for licensure by endorsement if you meet the educational and licensure requirements for licensure that were in effect in Florida at the time of your original licensure, and hold a current license in another state of the United States, province of Canada, or in Cuba. You will be required to document the conditions you met at the time the original license was issued. If Florida law would have required an applicant to take a licensure examination had they applied in Florida at the time they were licensed in the state of original licensure, the examination in the original state must have been equivalent to or more stringent than that given in Florida. Florida law requires that an applicant have a U.S. Social Security number at the time of application.

  1. Contact Florida Board of Nursing for license application.
  2. Submit completed application to Florida Board of Nursing with fee. Once Florida Board of Nursing receives completed application, a 90-day work permit will be issued in 4-8 weeks.
  3. Provide employer with a copy of the Florida Board of Nursing 90-day permit to work as a licensed nurse.
  4. Provide employer with a copy of current license from the state where you are presently licensed.
  5. Provide employer with a copy of your Florida license upon receipt.
  6. If license is not received within 90 days from date on receipt, you are not eligible to work as a licensed nurse, unless you request an extension letter. Such a letter will be valid for another 90 days.
  7. It is the responsibility of the employee to provide the employer with approval from Florida Board of Nursing to work beyond the 90-day period.
