Perinatal Nurse Internship

With our annual birth rate of more than 7,200, Florida Hospital boasts
one of the state's leading obstetrics programs. Our goal is to "deliver"
mothers with as many options as possible, so our programs involve the
family in every aspect of care.
We've cared for new moms and infants for nearly a century and for the
last quarter of century, Florida Hospital has set national precedents
in family-centered care. At the center of our family-focused care is our
nursing team. If you chose this nursing specialty, you may choose between
two tracks for our 12 to 16 week internship program:
High Risk Track
This track combines classroom and precepted clinical experience over
the course of 11 weeks.
Labor and Deliver Track
This program provides an additional four to six days of clinical experience.
Both internship tracks include:
- Care of the antepartum patients with medical or obstetric complications
requiring hospitalization
- Care of the patients during labor and birth, including surgical interventionBy

- Administer medications according to hospital/unit standards
- Perform basic skills competently
- Communicate effectively in various situations
- Prioritize patient needs and appropriate
When you complete our Perinatal Internship, you'll be eligible for the
following certificates:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring
- Healthy Mother, Healthy Baby Lactation Program
Locations
As a Perinatal Nurse Intern, you may work at one of the following locations:
Florida Hospital Orlando
- 31 private maternal/infant beds
- 16 perinatal high-risk beds
- Two specially designed Birthday Suites
- Nine private LDR rooms
- Three special procedures rooms
- Two operating rooms for cesarean section births and tubal ligations
- A four-bed recovery room
- Antepartum testing space
For the past two years, Discovery Health Channel has broadcast a special
10-hour BIRTH DAY LIVE! television marathon, featuring the labor, delivery
and birth of babies from three medical centers across the country, including
The Baby Place at Florida Hospital Orlando.
Florida Children's Hospital at Florida Hospital Orlando
- 13-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
(Adjoining Labor and Delivery, this unit is staffed by a specialized
medical team that includes neonatologists, nurses and neonatal nurse
practitioners, respiratory therapists, social workers, audiologists,
occupational and physical therapists, developmental specialists, and
other sub-specialists.)
- 28-bed Level II Special Care Nursery
- Five Board Certified Neonatalogists
- Numerous sub-specialists
Florida Hospital Altamonte
- 18 maternal/infant beds
- A timeout nursery
- Two specially designed Birthday Suites
- Six private LDR rooms
- Two operating rooms
- A two-bed recovery room
- Two antepartum rooms
Florida Hospital Celebration Health
- 10 private LDRP rooms
- Six private maternal/infant/GYN Med-surg beds
- A timeout nursery
- One specialty Birthday Suite
- One operating room
- Antepartum testing space
Florida Hospital Winter Park
- 17 maternal/infant beds
- A timeout nursery
- Five Level II NICU beds
- Seven LDR rooms
- Two operating rooms
- A two-bed recovery room
- Six antepartum high-risk beds
- Antepartum testing space
